Noritaka Tsutsumi also known as (a.k.a) Nori, a

Japanese student in Cleverlearn English Language Institute (CELI)

traveled from SM City – Cebu to CELI Residences on foot.

It sounds absolutely challenging but he did it anyway.

Our group conducted an interview with him at C-Spot about his journey.

Literary Arts Club (LAC): We have heard that you hiked from SM City to CELI. It sounds quite a long journey. Why did you choose to walk by yourself?

Nori: Actually, I studied Architecture in university, so I was curious about Filipino houses. That’s why I decided to walk back to CELI.

LAC: When was that?

Nori: That was June 20, Saturday at around 12 noon.

LAC: How long did it take?

Nori: I think, it took me about four hours.

LAC: Were there any obstacles for you while walking?

On July 19 (Sunday), some unavoidable noise woke some CELI students up in the middle of the night. Where was the noise from? Some students in their pajamas with messy hair soon spotted that eighty-two students and twelve guardians just landed in CELI Island. That peaceful and quiet Mactan Island has started to be crowded. In other words, Kids’ camp has just started. ALERT, CELI students! This place is not our cozy shelter anymore for a good while.

Hi teacher,

How have you been? How is your work going? Any new students? Well talking about me,
I am ok. I got here in Manila safe on Tuesday and I had a trip to upper Luzon as I planned. On Wednesday night, I left Manila for Banaue. I took the night bus and it took 10 hours. It was raining all day but I had to take this rice terraces tour right I got there. Even though I was really tired in the morning, I took this tour. It takes one and a half hour to get to Batad, where the rice terraces are. There starts the hiking. Because of the rain, the road was really slippery and water blocked my eyesight and it was really foggy. The road is so steep but my tour guide and I made it.

What is Your Most Unforgettable Experience?

Monday, August 24th, 2009 | What is Your Most Unforgettable Experience? | No Comments

If you’re from CELI, go for about five minutes by car, you can find Mactan Shrine. Mactan Shrine is the place where Lapu-lapu, who was the chief of Cebu Island before, fought with Spanish military unit. A leader of that unit was Magellan who was killed by Lapu-lapu. After that, Philippines built the shrine to praise in honor of him. Last Friday my friends and I decided to go Mactan Shrine. Before we went there, we heard about it from many people. They always appreciate the beauty of the place and its heroic history. We took a jeep and paid only P7.00 for the fare though it was almost full already but we’re not afraid because people were so kind to us. We arrived at Mactan Shrine easily because of their help.

Mactan Shrine is really a wonderful place. There is no entrance fee. It is totally free for viewing and for picture taking. We saw a Pagoda and a big statue of Lapu-lapu in the middle of the fabulous garden. The place was so relaxing. When night came, a lot of lights were turned on. It makes the place more wonderful. You’ll have peacefulness of mind when you’ll be there. We enjoyed taking pictures with that beautiful place. We bought native coin purse as souvenir.

By the time we need to go back to CELI again, we took another ride and passed other beautiful views. The driver was so friendly and we met a lovely family in the jeep. It was the most unforget table moment I ever had.
